Double/Single Hung
Hung windows are vertically operating windows in which the weight of the sash is offset by a hardware balance mounted within the window frame. On a double hung both the upper and lower sash operate, whereas, on a single hung, only the lower sash lifts up. Some hung windows offer hardware that permits the sash to be tilted inward for cleaning purposes.
