With its manufacturing center located on the 44th parallel North, Wausau’s winter temperatures frequently dip below 0ºF.
Engineering for such extreme climates, Wausau’s history and leadership in energy-saving, innovative design began in the early 1970s with the development of thermal barriers for our aluminum windows.
These high-performance windows quickly became the standard for cold climates. In 1982, Wausau introduced triple-glazed HPW-64 Series windows with an oversized thermal barrier to address the “near-arctic” performance needs of northern climates. (Today, these are known as Climate Zones 7 and 8.) With continued improvements throughout the years, these continue to be a part of Wausau’s standard product offering used throughout the nation.
More than 10 years ago, Wausau debuted its HP-Wall.
It remains one of the most energy-efficient curtainwall products in the industry. Using the technology of the time, Wausau achieved leading-edge,
R-5 performance (U-Factor of 0.20 BTU/hr-sqft-ºF)
with four-level thermal barrier and occupant-variable control
of daylight and natural ventilation.
Updates to the HP-Wall now accommodate:
- Spectrally selective
- Low-e
- Warm-edge
- Argon-filled
- Triple insulating glass, which maintains performance and enhances appearance.
